Former WBO heavyweight champion Lamon “Relentless” Brewster 35-6 (30) has reached the end of the road at top level. Brewster who once stopped Wladimir Klitschko went to Germany to rebuild his career but has now lost two on the trot. Tonight he went in against prospect Robert Helenius 11-0 (7).

Helenius controlled the action from the start, dropped Brewster in the second and punished him gradually until the bout was stopped in the eighth. Brewster’s career at the top level is now finished and it is up to him as to whether he gets out of the game or accepts the slide into journeyman status.

As for Helenius he has now stopped Brewster, Taras Bidenko and Scott Gammer in his last four fights and that is good opposition for so few fights.

Matt Skelton 22-5 (19) was brought over to Germany as an opponent for the highly ambitious former amateur star Kubrat Pulev 5-0 (3). Skelton may have lost his last two bouts but they were in good class and many wondered if he would have too much experience for a four fight novice. This was not the case as Pulev was too good for the faded Skelton and stopped him in four rounds.

Skelton has now lost three on the trot, all by stoppage and needs to get out of boxing. Allegedly he has invested his money wisely and this writer would like to wish this nice guy all the very best.

Rene Dettweiler 25-3 (12) is only 26 years old so it is maybe a little harsh to say that his career is over but it doesn’t look too good for the big German as he was crushed in two rounds by another unbeaten prospect Edmund Gerber 10-0 (7).

Gerber is only a 21 year old heavyweight but destroyed Dettweiler sending him crashing to the canvas early in the 2nd round. Detweiler is a reasonable fighter but there are just so many heavyweight prospects fighting out of Germany that he is likely to be overlooked unless for the “opponent role”
