The “Bedford BearMatt Skelton 22-4 (19) was scheduled to fight Derek Chisora on February 13th. However Chisora will now fight Danny Williams for the British heavyweight title on that date leaving the 43 year old Skelton seemingly kicking his heels.

However Skelton will now fight on January 30th in Germany. His opponent will be undefeated prospect Kubrat Pulev 4-0 (2). Pulev was a very successful amateur representing Bulgaria, beating Odlanier Solis in the unpaid ranks and winning a silver medal in the European championships and a bronze in the World championships.

Pulev was an amateur for a long time as he was in the Bulgarian army but the Sauerland camp are obviously showing a great deal of faith in Pulev by matching him so toughly so early. In fact Pulev has already beaten Gbenga Oloukon 17-3 (10) in only his second fight. When you consider Olukon out pointed Lamon Brewster two fights before you can see why Sauerland have a lot of faith in their charge.

Skelton, who looked pretty shot in his last two bouts (stoppage losses to Martin Rogan and Francesco Pianeta) will surely have to call it quits or continue to make money as a journeyman if he loses this bout.
