I know the odds are against it. But what if Clottey somehow pulled off the upset? What if fighting the bigger fighters caught up with Manny? Clottey has good size, lasts the distance and has a real good chin. I can't see him wining on points but what if he pulled the upset?
Where would that leave us and where would it leave the welterweights?
I think it would be a huge blow for boxing. The Pac-May fight has lost much interest from the general public, but the anticipation will all come back if the fight gets announced. If Pac loses however, I think May takes the opportunity to claim Pac was never that good, and to refuse a fight with him. That would leave May as the marquee star of boxing, but after Shane, he won't have anyone left to fight that would draw mainstream attention. Boxing would then have to wait until another couple superstars emerge that can put the sport back into the world-wide spotlight.

Re: Pacquiao vs. Clottey??
If Mayweather beats Shane and if Clottey upsets Pacman
Then: Mayweather needs to fight Paul Williams. Clottey needs a Cotto rematch. Pacquiao could beat Tim Bradley and rule at 140 pounds easily. Two fights, and two wins for Pacquiao, even if he loses to Clottey first - and the Mayweather vs Pacman fight would again be big money, in any weight class.
Don't think any upset in the sport would be bad for boxing as that what makes this sport so unique. To me it would be like Tyson/Douglas all over again and imagine the box office appeal of a rematch between the 2 as part of a double header with the winner of Floyd and Shane against another marque name with the winners of those fights getting on for an undisputed #1.
