Floyd Mayweather will come up against Manny Pacquiao on March 13th but unfortunately
only in a battle for TV rankings as once again boxing fans will be forced to choose
which match they want to watch.
As Pacquiao battles Joshua Clottey at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, Mayweather will fight the same night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Mayweather is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and their CEO Richard Schaefer has the following to say, “It is a date (March 13th) that Golden Boy has had for a long time and nothing has changed. We have been talking to team Mayweather to see who the opponent will be. I hope to have something to announce in the next few days”.
Luckily (in my opinion) British fighter Matthew Hatton will not be in the opposite corner. Schaefer continued “There is absolutely no truth to the rumours about Matthew Hatton. I can’t tell you for sure who Floyd will fight, but I can tell you for sure it won’t be Matthew Hatton”.
Both fighters have had their biggest bouts shown on HBO in the past so it will be interesting to see which fighter HBO decides to use although Bob Arum could always produce his own Top Rank pay per view night as he has done before.
The date of March 13th was originally put aside by HBO for Golden Boy Promotions for the rematch between Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones which will not now be happening due to Jones’ devastating loss to Danny Green.
Depending on which rumours you decide to believe Mayweather’s opponent will be one of the following, Paulie Malignaggi, Nate Campbell, Kermit Cintron or Timothy Bradley. Bradley seems unlikely as he is a Showtime TV fighter.
