Former WBO super featherweight champion and extremely exciting fighter 'La Hiena'
Jorge Rodrigo Barrios 49-4-1 (35) is in major trouble with the law in his homeland
of Argentina.
Barrios stands accused of killing a 20 year old woman named Yamil Gonzalez in a car accident in a city called Mar Del Plata sometime on Sunday. It is alleged (through witnesses who have come forward) that Barrios went through a red light and struck another car. The velocity of this accident caused the vehicle that Barrios hit to career into seven pedestrians. One of them was Gonzalez who was killed.
It is alleged that Barrios was exceeding the speed limit as well as running the red light in his BMW X5.
Rumours also say that Barrios left the scene of the accident and struck yet another car as he fled. However Barrios turned himself into a police station later in the day with his legal aid.
As Barrios has a clean criminal record, he is expected to be given bail but if found guilty could face an extremely long sentence. He wouldn’t be the first Argentine boxing champion to go inside. Legendary middleweight Carlos Monzon was sentenced to life for murder and died when his car crashed whilst out on official prison leave.
