After 17 years Bernard Hopkins gets his chance at redemption as he takes on Roy Jones
Jr on April 3 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nev. The bout will
be broadcast live on Pay-Per-View beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
In an event entitled "The Rivals", Hopkins gets a chance to have the last word on the Jones saga, a rivalry that has been ongoing for years ever since Roy's victory over Hopkins in 1993 for the vacant IBF middleweight title.
If you are a boxing purist then you know the story. Hopkins went on to become the middleweight champ and defended the title a record 21 times holding the undisputed middleweight crown for ten years before being dethroned by Jermain Taylor.
Jones became a real superstar in the sport and among the many belts he held he became the first man to ever begin his career as a junior middleweight and become heavyweight champion.
Both fighters have cemented their place in the hall of fame and although this fight should've happened years ago it will still be interesting to see these two wily veterans try to outdo each other come April 3rd.
"A rematch with Roy has been in the back of my mind for a long time and it's finally going to happen," said Hopkins.
"I have accomplished a lot in my career since that night in Washington, DC in 1993, and I am going to end this thing between me and Roy once and for all."
"We're giving the fans what they want to see. They deserve this fight and why not supply the fans with what they demand?" said Jones.
"Now I can finally terminate the Executioner once and for all. My new nickname for this fight will be - The Terminator."
