Motherwell's Barry Morrison took on Londoner Lenny Daws for the vacant British Light
welterweight Title tonight. Morrison faced a tough battle against Daws at the York
Hall, London, but in the end Daws came through victorious, stopping Barry Morrison
in the tenth round in a streak now stretching back his last seven fights at the York
Hall.
Daws was looking to avenge his only career defeat , which he suffered against Morrison two and a half years ago when they fought for the same title. The Scot was the winner on that occasion.
Daws started off the sharper of the pair in the first round and did enough to edge ahead on the scorecard, but both fighters were evenly matched in the following few rounds with Morrison coming into the fight, in a lively encounter. Morrison landed with some nice hooks which Daws countered with the right hand.
Daws started to mark up around the face in the fourth with Morrison having some success, but both fighters were evenly matched up to round eight, when Morrison started to show signs of fatigue and Daws picked up the attack and started to gain the upper hand. In round nine Morrison came out swinging but it didn't last, the pace was starting to show and Daws took advantage.
Round ten and Daws connected with a decent left hook to the head which dropped the exhausted Morrison and the ref stepped in to stop the fight, in favour of the deserved winner Daws.
All in it was a decent encounter with both fighters evenly matched through most of the fight, but fitness and desire gave Daws the chance to gain revenge over Morrison and also more importantly the title.
