FightFranchise's Dan Cotter caught up with former European light welterweight champion
Ted Bami ahead of this weeks Prizefighter tournament.
First of all looking ahead to prizefighter how has all your preparation gone?
Its been going alright, by the grace of god being going good cant complain.
How do you find training for a tournament like prizefighter differs to a normal boxing bout?
Its a bit different, but I take it just like a normal fight. A normal 12 round fight. There’s a lot of breaks between rounds but as a professional you should know how to control yourself.
How did you get yourself involved in the tournament?
I find it really exciting because it can boost my career. It will show the whole of England who are watching the competition who I am and that I have lots left in my career. I got involved by getting called by matchroom sport and asked if I wanted to participate in the prizefighter tournament, I said yes so here I am.
When you look at the nature of the tournament the 3x3 rounds does it suit your kind of boxing?
It doesn’t really, because sometimes I’m a slow starter because sometimes it takes 3 rounds for the fighter to warm up.
Having been in the welterweight prizefighter tournament how do you feel the light welterweight version will be?
It’s hard because it’s a long time since I boxed at light welterweight but I think I will be alright.
Your thoughts on your first opponent Gavin Rees?
I don’t know anything about Gavin Rees, he should be worried about Ted Bami. They only time I’m going to know about him is tomorrow in the ring. I hope he knows about me.
Can Prizefighter be a platform for Ted Bami to bigger and better things?
It definitely is. It’s the fastest way to get my name back on the scene.
There’s the opportunity you may fight David Barnes along the line, who you dropped a decision to. Must be good to look forward to avenging that loss?
Of course, because David Barnes didn’t fight the real Ted Bami. This time I’ve put everything behind it.
Do you still enjoy your boxing?
Yes I do and there is plenty of fire left in Ted Bami.
Fight Franchise would like to wish Ted Bami all the best this weekend.
